6. Stavkirke Church
Tucked in a small, forested grove on Washington Island, Stavkirke Church is perfect for a serene and private proposal. Stavkirke is a complete replica of the Scandinavian churches found across Europe, built to honor the culture and legacy of the Scandinavian and Norwegian cultures engrained on Washington Island. The church is used year-round by Trinity Lutheran for small worship services and quiet meditation. It’s a popular spot for small and intimate weddings, since only about thirty people can fit inside the chapel. Stavkirke is also open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can pop the question on any day in any season!
5. Peninsula State Park Eagle Tower
There’s no better backdrop for a proposal than the crystal-clear water from atop Peninsula State Park’s Eagle Tower. Over 200 feet above the bay of Green Bay, the tower offers panoramic views of the park, surrounding islands, the water, and even the upper Michigan shoreline. Take engagement photos during the summer for the bright blue water or during fall for the fiery burst of colors from the surrounding trees. There are also several scenic trails near the tower that provide beautiful backgrounds for your special moment.
4. Whitefish Dunes State Park
For a beach proposal, Whitefish Dunes State Park is the best spot. Walk along the sand of the Lake Michigan shoreline as the waves lap at your feet and the sun sets over the water. Alternatively, you can hike on one of the many trails through the forest and up to Old Baldy, which is the tallest sand dune in the park at 93 feet. Get down on one knee on the observation platform, which overlooks the park and offers views of both Lake Michigan and Clark Lake. It’s especially scenic during the fall, with bright yellows and oranges from the surrounding trees.
3. Lavender Fields on Washington Island
Door County may be known for cherries, but lavender fields aren’t far behind! Washington Island is home to several hundred acres of lavender fields that bloom into seas of soft violet during the mid to late summer. Walking through the fields is an ethereal experience with the gorgeous colors and fresh, floral scent of lavender. At Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm, you’ll be transported to Provence, France with its lavender French café and pastries. Truly, there’s not a more romantic place in all of Door County.
Walk through the lavender fields and propose in one of the white gazebos surrounded by purple and white buds, and take engagement photos within the fields themselves. To commemorate your moment, cut some of the lavender buds from the bushes and take them home with you!
2. Anderson Dock
Looking for something fun and unique for your engagement photos? Anderson Dock is the perfect place! Sitting on an old dock in Ephraim, this art museum is covered in graffiti and drawings from over the years. In fact, this is encouraged! After asking the big question, immortalize the memory by grabbing a marker or paintbrush and writing your initials on one of the shingles. Anderson Dock is one of the best places in Door County to watch the sunset as well, so you can time your proposal perfectly to get some gorgeous photos and lasting memories.

Attached to Whitefish Dunes State Park is Cave Point County Park, which is one of the most popular places in Door County for proposals, and it’s pretty clear why! The waves crashing into the limestone cliffs and spraying water into the air can offer unique photo opportunities. The several plateaus jutting out into the lake are also perfect for capturing a moment that’s just for the two of you. Cave Point is fairly crowded with visitors during the summer and fall, so if you’re looking for someplace more private, there are plenty of trails around the park that you can hike to a more secluded spot, each with their own stunning backdrops for engagement photos. Cave Point is breathtaking no matter the season, and there’s no better place to ask the love of your life for their hand in marriage than one of the most beautiful places on the peninsula.
